News to our OWNERS
Happy
New Year and welcome to the Heart of the South Racing newsletter.
We trust everyone enjoyed the festive break and hope you are
looking forward to some great racing in 2009! After such a
prosperous 2007, last year was somewhat quiet in comparison however
with the acquisition of some new horses, and with a change in
tactics in some of our existing ones, we are confident 2009 will be
our most successful year yet!

SOUTH
CAPE by Cape Cross – We
are extremely hopeful of more moments in the Winners Enclosure with
SOUTH CAPE, who’s breeding and frame suggests progression for a
good few years yet. The horse has already won 6 races and over
£85,000 during his racing career so far and, with some clever race
planning, we continue to dream of that big race win! Unfortunately
while enjoying his winter in the paddocks SOUTH CAPE injured his
offside front leg late last year but all is healing very well and
he is still expected to be back on the track in May. Owner
hotline press 11 for SOUTH CAPE.

KASHMINA
by Dr Fong –
After finishing fourth in all of her races over hurdles, the ground
on her latest outing at Fontwell Park earlier this month proved too
testing and jockey Jamie Goldstein rightly eased up on KASHMINA
once it was apparent she was not enjoying the surface. Rather than
race on the all-weather while the ground is unsuitable, Trainer
Sheena West has recommended giving the filly a few months rest
during the harsh winter months thus keeping her fresh for a
campaign of summer racing. Owner Hotline dial 12 for
KASHMINA.

TOBAGO
BAY by Tobougg –
This brave little fellow has really turned his fortunes around in
2008 and is now considered one of the top juveniles in the country.
He has already ran at CHELTENHAM twice this season (finishing third
& sixth) and should the ground be better at the festival for
the Fred Winter Hurdle we are hopeful of being in the Winners
Enclosure once again! Owner hotline press button 13 for TOBAGO
BAY.

GOODWOOD
STARLIGHT by Mtoto –
Trained to win four races by John Dunlop this super little horse
will be trained by Gary Moore in 2009. He is currently enjoying a
rest during the winter months where he is relaxing in the paddocks
and growing. This partnership was very popular and all shares were
sold within two weeks of us purchasing the horse. He will be going
back into training in February and will be aimed at all the major
race meetings next year. Owner hotline press 14 for GOODWOOD
STARLIGHT

OR
JAUNE (Fr) by Grand Tressor - Fontwell Park Racing
– After
such a promising chasing debut at Huntingdon, we were all very
disappointed with OR JAUNE’s third place at Fontwell Park just
before Christmas. Reasons for the poor run could be the tight
figure of eight track, and maybe the wrong race tactics, but he
will need to improve considerably if the Cheltenham Festival is
still a target. We are just hoping it was one of those ‘days to
forget’ and now look ahead to his next run – possibilities include
January 14 at Newbury or January 17 at Wincanton. Owner hotline
press 15 for OR JAUNE

ENTHUSIUS
by Generous – Fontwell Park Racing –
This son of derby winner GENEROUS has really sharpened up after his
outing at Newbury and trainer Gary Moore is pleased with how the
horse is working. He ideally wants decent ground and with the
current going at Fontwell Park good, good-to-soft in places,
ENTHUSIUS looks likely to go there on Wednesday 7 January. Should
however it be unsuitable, there are some AW options at Lingfield
Park (16 & 30 January) and Great Leighs (15 January). Owner
hotline press 17 for ENTHUSIUS

EYE
FOR THE GIRLS by BERTOLINI – A
firm favourite at Heart of the South, this 2-year old gelding is
also currently out in the paddocks (with his best pal GOODWOOD
STARLIGHT!) whilst the National Hunt season is in full swing. He
eats more than any horse we have at rest and is consequently
growing and maturing tremendously. We expect him to be a different
horse next season. Owner hotline press 21 for EYE FOR THE
GIRLS.

PRIMA
FONTEYN by IMPERIAL DANCER –
After a noticeable improvement at Lingfield Park last month, PRIMA
FONTEYN will run again at Lingfield this Saturday 3 January. The
trip is over 1mile 2furlongs and trainer Sheena West is confident
we will again see a big development if the filly can settle early
on. Being a maiden race it is a fairly stiff contest but will
hopefully open up our chances for future races. Owner hotline
press 22 for PRIMA FONTEYN.

MOSHAHED
by Nashwan –
Fontwell Park Racing – This lovely horse has been on the walker
for the last month and next week will commence roadwork (walking
and trotting) before going back into full-training in late
February. It has been a somewhat frustrating period for his owners,
due to an injury setback just before MOSHAHED was due to run in
September, but patience will prevail with this individual who will
now be trained by Gary Moore. He enjoys the better ground so will
be another summer jumper for Heart of the South Racing. Owner
hotline press 23 for MOSHAHED.

DICEY
AFFAIR by MEDICEAN –
With every run we saw a marked improvement in DICEY AFFAIR. However
just before her first Nursery race she turned in her coat and
consequently ran a bit flat. The filly is now out in the paddocks
to grow and mature. She should develop into a lovely little 3-year
old this summer and will most certainly provide her owners with
lots of fun. Owner hotline press 24 for DICEY
AFFAIR.

Unnamed
gelding by OLD VIC - The
latest horse to join the partnership string is a 4-year old by OLD
VIC - a phenomenal National Hunt sire who has produced the likes of
KICKING KING, RACING DEMON, OUR VIC, COMPLY OR DIE and more
recently SNOOPY LOOPY. We purchased this individual at the
Breeze-up sales earlier this month and he should be ready to race
in the next month. He will start in bumpers before quickly moving
to hurdles but will ultimately be a 3mile chaser. This 10-owner
partnership was the most popular syndicate we have ever put
together and all shares have already been sold. Owner hotline
press 26 for this unnamed gelding by OLD VIC.
