The Thrill of Racehorse Ownership for Syndicate members with Heart of the South

John Penny began running horseracing partnerships over 15 years ago after finding himself disappointed with the way other partnerships operated. He wanted to offer a service that took all of the effort out of owning a racehorse and allowed owners to feel as though they owned their horses outright. He also wanted to make it a social thing, where owners can get to know each other at the races and at social events, and always feel welcome when they visit the yards. He thought racehorse ownership should be about entertainment and excitment - and not just for the elite! As well as racing, we are also actively involved in breeding and John and Caroline have two broadmares at their stud in East Sussex. In 2009 we launched our first breeding partnership which sold out within days. Several of our winning horses have been the offspring of our mare Aunt Ruby, including our flagship flat horse SOUTH CAPE. Aunt Ruby has produced four individual winners for us (out of five foals) and is now in foal to the legendary Green Desert in his last season as a sire.
Eloise Penny Eloise worked for the BHB's "Discover Racing Project"while at university followed by 3 years at Brighton Racecourse in Sales. In 2005 John's daughter, Eloise, joined Heart of the South when the string was increased to 14 horses. She now runs the dy to day business of the organisation. Last October Eloise had her first daughter and is now back at work after a short leave. Eloise has always ridden and in fact still occasionally rides some of the better behaved Heart of the South horses.
	John Penny Formally the MD of Systematic Telecoms Ltd, John's love affair with racing has ben the main influence behind Heart Of The South Racing & Bloodstock. For 3 years, 2001/4 John worked for the British Horseracing Board promoting & explaining racehorse ownership at racecourses throughout the UK. John regularly reminds us "We aim to provide the average racing enthusiast with the chance to be a racehorse owner and enjoy the thrill of ownership." John and his wife Caroline often represent Heart of the South Racing at the racecourses when we have a runner.
Sarah Bell Sarah initially joined Heart Of The South to cover Eloise's maternity leave. She proved such an asset that now Eloise and Sarah work together to keep all owners informed, to liaise with our trainers and to make sure the business runs like clockwork! It is our philosophy to make sure our owners enjoy their experience as a racehorse owner and Sarah makes it happen. Eloise met Sarah when they worked together at Brighton Racecourse. Sarah's husband is Phil Bell the very successful manager of Fontwell Park.
	Caroline Penny At our stud in Framfield, it is Caroline who does most of the feeding, mucking out and grooming, it is hard work, particularly in the winter but Caroline says "It is all worthwhile when the foals grow up and go on to win races." Caroline also supports Eloise with the accounts and we pride ourselves with the promptness of our payments to our trainers and suppliers. We also let her go racing sometimes!
