KASHMINA - Hurdler by Dr Fong (USA) - trained by Sheena West

KASHMINA is a 5 year old mare who has provided an enormous amount of fun for her owners. She is incredibly tough and consistent, running regularly and always giving her owners plenty of hope! Last season she won on the flat at Windsor and over hurdles at Taunton, and finished in the places numerous times. She is trained at Lewes in Sussex by Sheena West and usually runs at the local tracks so is a great horse to own for Sussex based racing fans. She will been running on the flat for the time being as hurdling options are few and far between at this time of year. However she will be going back hurdling later in the year.

Jockey - Mark Goldstein

A mud splattered Kashmina and jockey Marc Goldstein
together with her devoted handler Hayley.

The ground was soft after some very heavy rain and unlike previous races she really seemed to enjoy it, hitting the front and had plenty left in the tank at the end of the race. The fact she handled the softer ground better than expected certainly opens more doors us!

Jockey - James Doyle

KASHMINA wins in great style at Windsor! Congratulations to everyone! She really battled right to line and proved she can do it – after coming close so many times!

Full credit must go to James Doyle the jockey and Sheena who picked out this race. This exciting dual purpose filly still has a prosperous hurdling career in front of her and let’s hope we can replicate this success on the flat should a similar race arise. Let's hope KASHMINA now has a taste for winning.

KASHMINA proves she can battle as she wins by a neck at Windsor!

Jockey James Doyle was confident pre-race and gave the filly well planned ride.

Kashmina has already a winner over hurdles and in the winners enclosure all bar twice.

Kashmina is a beautiful filly and really benefited from a little time off to grow and mature in Spring 2009.

Trainer Sheena West enjoyed a fantastic season in 2008, with a ratio of 31% winners to runners ratio over the jumps that many trainers would be proud of.

She also has an incredible record of turning somewhat underachieving horses into winners - our very ownTobago Bay (who not only has improved from nothing on the flat but has also won 3 hurdle races (and performed decent efforts at The Cheltenham Festival) being an outstanding example.

Other success stories include:

*Kalmini: A winner of 2 races from 5 starts after leaving previous trainer.
* Mohanad Winning hurdler and listed hurdle placed for Heart of the South
*Captain Cloudy: Ran 33 times without a win, but once moved to Sheena went on to win 3 out of 6 races and went up 14lb in the handicap.
*Screaming Brave
*Hamsomelle:Previously running in Sellers with a handicap rating of 49, ran in Listed races and reached 73 when in her prime with Sheena.

Maybe it is the individual attention each horse receives or that each training day is different thanks to 1500 acres of land to ride over but the results do speak for themselves. Be part of the action!

Sheena already has her eye another similar horse.
