A Trip to Tattersalls, the National Stud and Newmarket Races

On 13th April 2011 we held a very enjoyable whistle stop tour of Newmarket for 34 of our owners. We started the day at Tattersalls where they were holding the Breeze-Up sales selling 2 year olds for this season. We had a delicious breakfast and very interesting introduction to the world of breeding, then saw some beautiful horses who went on to fetch huge prices in the evening auction. Our next stop was the National Stud where we were given a parade of stallions. We saw MYBOYCHARLIE, COCKNEY REBEL and PASTORAL PURSUITS, as well as lots of beautiful mares and foals. Stars of the show were our own AUNT RUBY and her GREEN DESERT foal.

We spent the afternoon at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course for some top class racing including trials for the early classics. We managed to back a few winners between us and it was a fantastic afternoon.

John and Eloise went back to the sales in the evening with some owners and bought a lovely colt by French Guineas and Derby winner SHAMARDAL. He is now in training with Gary Moore and he looks a lovely strong sort.

It certainly was a very fine breakfast! So much thought goes into which stallion to choose for a mare and it was fascinating to hear what experts look for in a horse at the sales.

The very grand auction ring at Tattersalls. The bidding regularly goes above £100,000 for these 2 year olds. Top lot of the day was a 320,000 guineas colt by Distorted Humor.

We saw 3 stallions parading, they looked magnificent and are treated like kings!

PASTORAL PURSUITS - once a top sprinter, now siring plenty of winners at the National Stud.

AUNT RUBY and her colt by Green Desert looked fantastic and stood patiently for their audience.

The Green Desert colt is a big strong foal. He will shortly move back to Framfield for the summer.
