Thursday
29th July
SOUTH
CAPE unfortunately misses Glorious Goodwood this year after Gary
made the decision to save him for another day. He has been on
antibiotics after his scope at the beginning of the week and while
he seems fine, antibiotics can make humans and horses feel slightly
under the weather and there is no point running the horse if he
isn't at his best. It is disappointing because he goes well at
Goodwood and its a fantastic race meeting but SOUTH CAPE goes well
in the autumn and there will be plenty more chances to see him in
action.
THE
SHUFFLER put in another good performance to finish third at Sandown
last night, he hasn't been out of the prize money in 5 runs this
season. He was up in grade so it encouraging that he could hold his
own.
RED
YARN goes to Lingfield on Saturday, back over the course and
distance of her best performance where she finished a head second
recently.
|
|
Tuesday
27th July
SOUTH
CAPE will not run at Goodwood today after a routine scope yesterday
showed signs of a very mild infection. He will be treated and we
are hopeful he will be able to line up on either Friday or Saturday
at Goodwood.
THE
SHUFFLER goes to Sandown tomorrow if there is sufficient rainfall
to take the sting out of the ground. He was a non runner last week
because the ground was too quick, he does need a bit of give in the
ground because he came back uncomfortable after his win on quick
ground at Chepstow.
|
|
Monday
26th July
Our
little superstar SOUTH CAPE goes to Glorious Goodwood tomorrow when
he tackles a mile and a quarter for the first time. Despite plenty
of watering the track is pretty quick and this will help the horse
get the two extra furlongs. Last time at Windsor over a mile he
looked like he was going a bit faster than he would like before
staying on in the closing stages and Gary thinks he will get a bit
further. He likes Goodwood and has a nice low weight so we hope he
will go well. He is now a winner of 8 races and over £100,000 in
prize money!
|
|
Thursday 22nd
July
Unfortunately THE SHUFFLER didn't run at Sandown
last night as the forecast rain didn't come and the ground got very
quick. He got jarred up when he won at Chepstow and we don't want
to hurt him or spoil his determined attitude so he will wait for
slightly softer ground.
SOUTH
CAPE now holds three entries at Glorious Goodwood next week. Gary
will make a decision over which race to go for nearer the
time.
INTERAKT goes to Chepstow tomorrow where we hope
she will appreciate the slightly softer ground.
|
|
Tuesday
20th July
Our 2 year
old Motivator filly has been given a name! After a vote among her
owners she has been named ROYAL REASON. Her trainer Mick Channon
reports that she is progressing nicely and we expect her to have
her first run later this summer.
|
|
Tuesday
20th July
MOHANAD ran a
great race at Market Rasen to finish fifth in a high class handicap
hurdle. He is likely to head back there on 1st August for a race
over 2 furlongs further, this should suit him better and enable him
to travel and jump in a better rhythm.
THE SHUFFLER
goes to Sandown tomorrow evening for his first run since winning at
Chepstow. We would ideally like the forecast rain to arrive
as I he does like a bit of cut in the
ground.
|
|
Friday
16th July
We have two
runners tomorrow, both with fair chances. MOHANAD goes to
Market Rasen for the listed handicap hurdle, one of the biggest
races of the summer jumping season. He has been placed on the flat
on his last two outings and is improving over hurdles. It is a big
ask in a competitive race but we think a lot of this horse. In the
evening EYE FOR THE GIRLS lines up at Linfield. He was second from
4lb out of the handicap last time out, probably his best run ever,
and we hope he can go close too.
|
|
Friday
16th July
What a
fantastic effort from GOODWOOD STARLIGHT at Epsom last night! A
winner as a 3 year old for John Dunlop, things haven't gone right
for him since and he has become his own worst enemy with his hard
pulling and inability to settle. However we always knew he had
plenty of ability and he hacked up at Epsom yesterday. He settled
better than usual and was able to travel nearer the pace, and had
plenty of petrol left in the tank to sprint clear at the end. He is
likely to go up several pounds but this should help us to get a run
in the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot in
August.
INTERAKT ran
a great race too, finishing second. She has been a much improved
filly this season and there should be plenty more to come from her.
|
|
Wednesday
14th July
RED YARN was
disappointing at Windsor on Monday night, hanging in behind other
horses under pressure. Gary Moore says that with hindsight he has
run her too soon after the last race and she is likely to have a
bit of a break now while we scratch our heads to try to work out
how to get her to realise her full potential. Celestial Girl, the
filly we finished second to at Brighton last week has since come
out and won again by 3 lengths so the form of that race was
good.
GOODWOOD
STARLIGHT and INTERAKT have been declared at Epsom tomorrow
evening.
|
|
Monday
12th July
Our horses
are continuing in great form with close 3rd place finishes from
INTERAKT and EYE FOR THE GIRLS over the weekend. It looked like
INTERAKT might just win at Newbury but was caught close to the
line, and EYE FOR THE GIRLS was just pipped on the line for second
at Salisbury. Almost every runner we send out recently is
finishing placed so we must be due another win soon! We have high
hopes of RED YARN at Windsor this
evening.
|
|
Thursday
8th July
Heart of the
South Racing is pleased to announce the arrival of a new horse!
DEUX ETOILES is a three year old son of Montjeu who has had one run
on the flat in France for Andre Fabre. He was bought for us by Gary
Moore to ultimately go hurdling but is likely to have a run on the
flat first. He is a fantastic looking horse with lots of promise,
for more details see our Horses in Training page or give us a call
on 01403
891403.
|
|
Thursday
8th July
INTERAKT goes
to Newbury tomorrow evening for a 7 furlong fillies handicap. It is
likely to be a tougher race than when she was third at Brighton
recently but she is in great form and is sure to get her head in
front too. EYE FOR THE GIRLS runs at Salisbury on Saturday evening.
He ran a great race to finish second there last time, this again is
a higher class race and he runs from just out of the handicap but
he does seem to like Salisbury.
RED YARN
holds an entry at Windsor on Monday evening. She is not definite to
get in but it looks a nice race for her, a mile on a track where
she shouldn't be able to run around as she did at Brighton.
Declarations take place on Saturday and we'll know more
then.
|
|
Tuesday
6th July
RED YARN
finished second at Brighton on Sunday, it was a good enough run,
but disappointing in the fact that as favourite we had hoped she
would win. She hung over to the stands side losing several lengths
and jockey Ryan Moore suggested a right handed track and a
specialist bit (a chifney) to try to keep her straight next time.
She'll be out again soon.
|
|
Saturday
3rd July
RED YARN was
going to go to Leicester today but Gary has decided instead to
switch her to Brighton tomorrow. She will be ridden for the first
time by Ryan Moore and also tackles a mile and a quarter for the
first time.
|
|
Thursday
1st July
We are sad to
report that on Tuesday evening we lost KASHMINA. She suffered a
serious injury in a race at Stratford and was humanely destroyed.
It is very sad as she was a lovely mare and our sympathy goes to
her owners and all at Sheena's yard.
|
|
Tuesday
29th June
It was yet
another placed effort from one of our horses on Sunday with a very
close third from SOUTH CAPE. The ground was on the quick side for
him and he'll now wait for softer ground. INTERAKT and KASHMINA go
today for us, both have reasonable chances and after a string of
places I'm sure we deserve another winner! RED YARN will be
attempting to follow up Saturday's second when she goes to either
Leicester or Brighton next weekend.
|
|
Sunday 27th
June
RED YARN ran
a great race at Lingfield yesterday, going down by a diminishing
head to a nice filly in a 7 furlong fillies handicap. RED YARN wore
blinkers after hanging last time and this helped to keep her much
straighter, these may be the key to her and she is going to be very
exciting this year on the turf, especially when stepped up to a
mile again next time. Gary tells us she is in great shape this
morning.
SOUTH CAPE,
older half brother to RED YARN, goes to Windsor this afternoon. He
is in great shape but the ground is a bit quicker than we would
like. If he can overcome this he should go
close.
|
|
Friday 25th
June
Our busy
week continues with RED YARN declared at Lingfield on Saturday
evening and SOUTH CAPE at Windsor on Sunday. Gary tells us they are
both very well. We have been waiting for an opportunity for SOUTH
CAPE for a while but the ground has been quicker than ideal. They
water well at Windsor though so the horse takes his chance. George
Baker rides, he rode a double at Chepstow on Monday (including THE
SHUFFLER) and he rode a treble at Bath later in the week so he is
certainly a jockey in form.
Sheena
tells us that MOHANAD is fine after his good second at Goodwood
yesterday. He was third at Lingfield on Monday so he has had a busy
week. He will have a few easy days before Sheena decides where to
go next.
|
|
Thursday
24th June
GOODWOOD
STARLIGHT ran a great race at Carlisle to finish fifth yesterday.
Once again he made it difficult for himself by not settling but the
fast pace helped and he ran on very strongly at the finish.
Unfortunately we just missed out on each way betting and prize
money but it was a great run anyway. EYE FOR THE GIRLS also ran
very well when just pipped in the last half furlong at Salisbury.
This was very much a return to form and he will certainly be back
to Salisbury soon, hopefully under amateur Charlie Bishop who rode
a great race on him.
TOBAGO BAY
goes to Market Rasen for his first novice chase tomorrow. It is a
tough little race but he needs to start somewhere and he will learn
a lot from the run.
|
|
Wednesday
23rd June
GOODWOOD
STARLIGHT runs at Carlisle this afternoon in the £30,000 Cumberland
Plate. This has been the long term plan since Sheena spotted the
race and noticed that it is always run at a very fast pace. This is
exactly what Starlight needs, he finds it hard to settle and a fast
run mile 3 1/2 furlongs should be ideal. Its a long way to go for a
race but Sheena is hopeful of a great run from this talented but
complicated horse. EYE FOR THE GIRLS goes to Salisbury this
afternoon for a 7 furlong handicap, the jockey Charlie Bishop knows
him well and will hopefully be able to keep him out of trouble
because this horse doesn't like being
crowded.
INTERAKT was
disappointing at Newbury last night, it may just be that the ground
was too quick and she seemed fine after the race but Mick is going
to have a look at her this morning to check nothing is
amiss.
|
|
Tuesday
22nd June
It was a
fantastic effort from THE SHUFFLER to win at Chepstow yesterday
evening. He has turned into a real battler and put in a really
determined effort to keep the fast finishing second at bay. MOHANAD
ran well too at Lingfield to finish third and has come out of the
race so well that he will go to Goodwood on Thursday where he will
be ridden for the first time by champion jockey Ryan Moore. We hope
the good form will continue with INTERAKT at Newbury this evening,
Mick Channon thinks she has a great
chance.
|
|
Monday 21st
June
INTERAKT goes
to Newbury tomorrow evening with a great chance, she also has an
entry at Doncaster at the weekend. On Wednesday GOODWOOD STARLIGHT
makes the long trip to Carlisle for the Cumberland Plate and EYE
FOR THE GIRLS goes to Salisbury.
|
|
Saturday
19th June
MOHANAD and
THE SHUFFLER have been declared at Lingfield and Chepstow on
Monday. MOHANAD is having an outing on the flat over a mile six and
he also holds an entry at Goodwood later in the week. THE SHUFFLER
goes for a mile classified stakes at Chepstow that Gary has had his
eye on for a while. He is in great form and we hope for a very good
run.
|
|
Thursday
17th June
Unfortunately
SOUTH CAPE didn't get into either of the races we hoped to go for
at Royal Ascot. However he will be out next week, there are races
for him at Salisbury, Newmarket and Windsor. He will go wherever we
get the most suitable ground because he does like a bit of
cut.
It is likely
to be a busy week, MOHANAD and THE SHUFFLER are likely to run on
Monday, RED YARN and INTERAKT are entered (in the same race) at
Newbury on Tuesday, GOODWOOD STARLIGHT goes to Carlisle on
Wednesday and TOBAGO BAY is being aimed at his first novice chase
at Market Rasen on Friday.
|
|
Thursday
17th June
The next Heart of the South social event
will be our summer lunch at Beggars Barn Stud at Framfield on
Saturday 1st August. It will be a chance for owners to catch up and
relax, we will present the trophies our horses have won recently
and there will be an opportunity for owners to see OR JAUNE and
FRUITY O'ROONEY who are currently enjoying their summer holidays at
Framfield.
|
|
Monday 14th
June
KASHMINA goes
to Windsor this evening with a good chance in the 1 mile 3 1/2
furlong handicap. She put in an improved effort at Folkestone last
time and this isn't the strongest race, particularly now that
Screaming Brave, Sheena's other entry in the same race, is a non
runner due to a slight injury. We hope she'll go
close.
EYE FOR THE
GIRLS finished midfield at Lingfield on Saturday, we had hoped he
would finish closer but didn't get the room he needs (he is a very
big, long striding horse and is blind in one eye) and this can make
it difficult for him. He is very well and will be out again
soon.
Its
declarations for the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot today so we will find
out if SOUTH CAPE has got in, or whether we need to find another
race elsewhere for him. There are options at Haydock, Salisbury and
Newmarket and he is also entered in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at
Ascot on Friday.
|
|
Friday 11th
June
RED YARN made
an encouraging return to the track in a hot handicap at Newbury
yesterday. She travelled well before tiring in the last furlong and
finishing midfield. Most of her rivals had had the benefit of a run
this season and Gary says she will come on for this. She has come
out of the race fine and will be ready to run again in around two
weeks.
|
|
Thursday
10th June
EYE
FOR THE GIRLS put in a good preformance at Yarmouth yesterday to
finish 3rd behind two nice horses. He has been declared to go to
Lingfield on Saturday, he is in such good order at the moment. We
had hoped SOUTH CAPE would go to Sandown on Saturday but he just
missed the cut, it looks like we wont get in at Ascot on Wednesday
either so we are looking for an alternative race for him. RED YARN
goes to Newbury today, its a hot race and we expect her to come on
for the run but it will be great to see her back in action
again.
|
|
Tuesday 8th
June
INTERAKT and EYE FOR THE GIRLS run tomorrow at
Kempton and Yarmouth. Both are in good form, this is INTERAKT's
first run since her Brighton win, and finally we get some give in
the ground of EYE FOR THE GIRLS so we hope both will go well. RED
YARN has her first run of the season (and her first run on turf) at
Newbury on Thursday and we are very excited to see what SOUTH
CAPE's little sister can do.
|
|
Tuesday 8th
June
TOBAGO BAY appeared to have an off day at
Worcester on Saturday and so wont line up at Market Rasen on
Friday. Sheena reports that he seems fine so he lives to fight
another day. MOAHANAD finished third on Sunday, we had hoped he
would have finished a bit closer but if you look at the form of the
race we were only just beaten by a horse rated 4lb higher, and the
winner looked like a very good horse. KASHMINA ran a good race to
finish fourth at Folkestone last night, she obviously preferred
this track to Brighton where she has been running
recently.
|
|
Saturday
5th June
Several owners visited Gary Moore's yard to
watch RED YARN work this morning. The filly looked great in the
sunshine and Gary hopes she will get into the race at Newbury on
Thursday. In case she doesn't make the cut he is going to make
alternative entries for her.
Good luck to
all TOBAGO BAY owners for his run at Worcester this
afternoon!
|
|
Thursday 3rd
June
Next
week is going to be a busy week for Heart of the South, MOHANAD and
TOBAGO BAY go to Worcester at the weekend, KASHMINA is entered at
Folkestone on Monday, RED YARN is likely to return on Thursday at
Newbury and we expect multiple entries for EYE FOR THE GIRLS and
INTERAKT. Read all about it in the new June newsletter featured on
this website.
|
|
Monday 31st
May
We had high
hopes of a good day on Friday when we had three runners but
unfortunately it didn't work out as planned. OR JAUNE didn't line
up at Stratford on Friday because the ground was too quick. He is
likely to have run his last race of the season. KASHMINA didn't
really enjoy her trip to Brighton and particularly the downhill
stretch and GOODWOOD STARLIGHT ran too freely at Newmarket, giving
away his chance. However, all of the horses returned home
fine and we live to fight another day!
|
|
Thursday
27th May
INTERAKT won today at the ninth time of asking.
She was really promising early in her two year old career but had
got very frustrating. This season had started slowly too, for her
first two runs she just wasn't ready so she had a break. This has
paid off because she looked fantastic today, and won by half a
length at Brighton. She holds an entry at Chepstow on Monday and it
will be interesting to see whether Mick Channon turns her out
quickly again.
|
|
Thursday
27th May
Tomorrow
will be a busy day for Heart of the Racing, we have three
runners. GOODWOOD STARLIGHT drops back to 10 furlongs at Newmarket
at 2.55, KASHMINA lines up at Brighton at 3.40 and OR JAUNE runs at
Stratford at 8.50pm. All go with a chance, Heart of the South
owners can dial our non premium rate line to hear our trainers'
opinions of their horses chances.
|
|
Tuesday
25th May
SOUTH
CAPE ran a cracker at Goodwood on Saturday to finish third in a
mile handicap. It looked inside the last furlong that he was going
to win but in the last hundred yards he was passed by two horses
coming up the centre of the track. SOUTH CAPE didn't have the
clearest of runs so he didn't have the momentum of the two that
beat him. The winner MOYNAHAN was 6th in the 2000 Guineas in 2008,
so we were up against a classy horse. We hope SOUTH CAPE's next
outing will be the Hunt Cup at Royal
Ascot.
THE
SHUFFLER also ran well last night to finish third at Windsor. He
didn't do himself any favours by pulling hard throughout the race,
but it was another strong
performance.
|
|
Saturday
22nd May
THE
SHUFFLER has been declared at Windsor on Monday evening. He
finished a great second there last time out, having previously won
at Brighton, and the handicapper has put him up 12lb for these
runs. He is in great form and we can hope that he can overcome this
hike in the weights.
|
|
Friday 21st
May
SOUTH
CAPE has been declared at Goodwood tomorrow, the horse likes it
there and he is in great form at the moment.
We
will be holding a stable visit to see his 3 year old half sister
RED YARN at Gary Moore's yard near Horsham tomorrow morning. If
anyone is interested in joining us please give us a
call.
|
|
Tuesday
18th May
We
had two runners yesterday, MOHANAD at Newton Abbot and GOODWOOD
STARLIGHT at Windsor. They were both placed but while we were
really pleased with GOODWOOD STARLIGHT'S effort, we were a bit
disappointed with MOHANAD'S fourth. We changed our tactics with him
a bit, deciding to lead to stretch his opponent's stamina but he
was green in front and we will stick to stiffer tracks and will
keep him covered up in future. He is still only a baby and we are
learning more about him all the time. Fingers crossed for better
luck next time!
SOUTH CAPE
has been entered at Goodwood on Saturday, the plan is to go on from
here to run at Royal Ascot. He was brilliant at Ascot last time and
we are hopeful of more success with him this
year.
|
|
Monday 10th
May
THE
SHUFFLER put in a really good performance at Windsor last night,
finishing a neck second to a very nice filly. It was a fast run
race, (2 1/2 seconds faster than a listed race over the same trip)
and he travelled really well but just couldnt quite catch the
winner who had first run on him. He is bound to go up again in the
handicap but jockey Ryan Moore expects him to win again
soon.
EYE
FOR THE GIRLS runs at Salisbury on Thursday in a 7f handicap for
apprentice jockeys. He has been running a long way from home at
Yarmouth and Newcastle so it will be good for his owners if he
showns a liking for Salisbury. He was very unlucky in running
in his last race but before that finished an excellent second and
he is in great form.
|
|
Monday 10th
May
THE
SHUFFLER goes to Windsor this evening with a good chance of
following up his recent Brighton victory. It is a hotter race and
he is up 7lb but we hope he will overcome
this.
OR
JAUNE ran well at Aintree on Friday, racing with his old zest
before tiring when he made a mistake at one of the later hurdles.
Gary will now have to decide whether to stick with hurdling for the
time being or to go back over
fences.
|
|
Friday 7th
May
OR
JAUNE runs at Aintree this evening, his first outing over hurdles
for 2 years. He hasn't had quite the same flair in his jumping this
season and Gary hopes an outing over hurdles will give him some
confidence back because he still retains loads of ability. A couple
of shares have recently become available in our seven time winner,
please do give us a call if you would like further
details.
TOBAGO BAY and MOHANAD had entries at Haydock on
Saturday but neither goes. TOBAGO BAY ran only a week ago and while
he is in great order Sheena has decided to svae him for another day
- it is still early in the season for him and there will be plenty
more opportunities. MOHANAD was declared for the Swinton Hurdle but
unfortunately missed the cut. He will now be aimed for a handicap
hurdle on 17th May at Newton Abbot.
|
|
Friday 7th
May
We have
a couple of stable visits planned in the next few weeks to see some
of our flat horses. We will be visiting the MOTIVATOR 2 year old
with Mick Channon on 15th May and RED YARN our 3 year old with Gary
Moore, on 22nd May. Please get in touch if you would like to see
either of these fillies.
|
|
Tuesday 4th
May
THE
SHUFFLER has been entered at Windsor on Monday evening, where he
will attempt to follow up his win at Brighton on 20th April. There
are two options for him on the same card and if he goes for the
mile option there is a chance he will meet INTERAKT. There are
several entries floating aroung for INTERAKT and EYE FOR THE GIRLS
at the moment, Mick will look at each race in detail before
deciding which to go for. Of course in EYE FOR THE GIRLS' case it
will depend on how he comes out of this afternoon's race at
Newcastle.
|
|
Monday 3rd
May
TOBAGO
BAY impressed everyone again with his attitude at Uttoxeter on
Saturday when he finished second in a very hot (and valuable)
handicap hurdle. Despite the ground being a bit softer than ideal
he travelled and jumped brilliantly and finished ahead of horses
like AFSOUN and SIR HARRY ORMESHER. He is now likely to go novice
chasing and has a provisional entry at Haydock next Saturday. Also
entered on the same card is MOHANAD our exciting young hurdler. The
race is the grade 3 Swinton Hurdle and he probably wont get in, but
if you aren't entered, you certainly wont get in, and we'll keep
our fingers crossed this
week!
|
|
Thursday 30th
April
What a
fantastic result for all concerned at Ascot on Wednesday when SOUTH
CAPE won his eighth race. Gary Moore has done a great job with him
and Ryan Moore gave him a brilliant ride. The offspring of our mare
AUNT RUBY are doing well, SOUTH CAPE's younger half brother EYE FOR
THE GIRLS goes to Newcastle on Tuesday with a great chance and
little sister RED YARN is looking incredible now shes back at
Cisswood for the start of her
campaign.
KASHMINA made her return at Brighton on Thursday
night, finishing fifth, and she will have a busy season running on
the flat and over hurdles.
TOBAGO
BAY goes to Uttoxeter tomorrow for a valuable handicap hurdle, we
are hoping the rain stays away and we expect him to go
well.
|
|
Tuesday 27th
April
Unfortunately OR JAUNE didn't run at Wincanton
today because when he arrived at the track Jamie Moore decided that
the quick ground could possibly do the horse some damage. He heads
to the sales on 5th May to dissolve the current partnership and we
plan to buy him back so shares in this lovely horse will become
available.
KASHMINA has been declared to run at Brighton on
Thursday. It will be her first outing of the season and also her
first trip to Brighton. This idiosyncratic course is not to every
horse's liking but if she takes to it there will be plenty of
options there for her this
summer.
|
|
Monday
26th April
We were
so pleased with MOHANAD's performance on Saturday at Sandown. He
finished a close fourth in a very hot handicap, for a relatively
inexperienced horse (the youngest in the race) it was a great run.
This was his first outing over hurdles for 6 months and he is sure
to improve again. Sheena reports he is fine and will be ready to
run again soon, he has the option of going hurdling or trying for a
first win on the flat.
OR
JAUNE goes to Wincanton tomorrow and SOUTH CAPE runs at Ascot on
Wednesday so it will be another busy week. KASHMINA holds an entry
at Brighton on Thursday, Sheena will make a decision in the next 24
hours as to whether she will
run.
|
|
Friday
23rd April
We
hoped to have two runners at tomorrow's Bet365 meeting at Sandown
tomorrow but unfortunately OR JAUNE just missed the cut. The good
news is that MOHANAD scraped in to the 2 mile 3 furlong handicap
hurdle with bottom weight. We have been waiting for this day for a
long time, it is the horse's first run over hurdles since he
sustained an injury before Christmas. Sheena reports that he is in
great form.
INTERAKT didn't run as well as we had hoped she
would at Beverley yesterday and Kieron Fallon reported that she
needs an extra few weeks before running again. Despite this, he was
pleased with her and said that she gave him a good feel.
|
|
Wednesday
21st April
What a
sensational run from THE SHUFFLER yesterday! He won at 14-1,
sprinting clear over a mile to win by 3 1/2 lengths. He has always
showed promise on the gallops so it was great to see him win at
last. INTERAKT goes all the way to Beverley tomorrow and we're
hoping for a second win in a week!
|
|
Tuesday 20th
April
THE
SHUFFLER makes his seasonal return today at Brighton in the 5.40pm
Classified Stakes over a mile. While the ground is a bit quicker
than we would have liked it does look like the ideal race for us,
in a classified stakes he will be carrying the same weight as
horses rated inferior to him so this should work in our favour. He
is fit and well and ready to do himself justice but will come on
for the run too.
|
|
Sunday 18th
April
More
good runs from the Heart of the South horses this week and another
winner can't be far off. FRUITY O'ROONEY delighted everyone with
how well he coped with the quicker ground at Cheltenham on
Thursday. He led almost all the way before fading into fourth and
he could do with coming down in the handicap a few pounds, but the
fact that he went so well on good ground certainly opens more doors
for us next season.
SOUTH
CAPE made his seasonal return in the very hot Spring Cup at Newbury
yesterday. He too travelled really well up with the pace and he
showed that the ability is still there. It should be a good season
for him.
We are
looking forward to Sandown's big meeting next Saturday when OR
JAUNE is engaged in the big race, the Bet365 Gold Cup, and MOHANAD
will be entered this week for the handicap hurdle on the same
card.
|
|
Wednesday
14th April
FRUITY
O'ROONEY has been declared at Cheltenham tomorrow for what is
likely to be his last run of the season. The ground is good which
is quicker than he has been racing on so it will be interesting to
see how he copes. It will tell us more about what sort of ground we
can campaign him on next season when he goes novice
chasing.
|
|
Sunday 11th
April
FRUITY
O'ROONEY didn't go to Chepstow as planned on Saturday because
unfortunately the ground was just too quick. We hope to give him
one more run this season, he will have entries in 3 mile hurdles at
Cheltenham on Thursday and Ascot on Sunday. He will go novice
chasing next season.
MOHANAD
ran well at Leicester on Thursday, it was his first run back after
an injury and he has shown no ill effects for the run.

Thursday 8th
April
MOHANAD
goes to Leicester this afternoon for his first run since the
autumn. His target is a handicap hurdle at Sandown on 24th April
and this should put him spot on. He has a chance this afternoon if
he copes with the heavy ground, he has seemed to prefer quicker
ground in the past.
EYE FOR
THE GIRLS ran a great race on Monday to finish a close second and
we're sure he will be winning
soon.

Sunday 4th
April
It looks like
being a very busy week for Heart of the South Racing! On Easter
Monday EYE FOR THE GIRLS goes to Yarmouth with a great chance and
OR JAUNE goes to Huntingdon. On Wednesday INTERAKT has two entries
at Nottingham and Kempton. On Thursday MOHANAD is entered to make
his long awaited return to the track at Leicester. On Friday TOBAGO
BAY is entered for his first novice chase. FRUITY O'ROONEY is
entered at Aintree on Friday and Chepstow on Saturday.

Friday 2nd
April
We were
delighted with the performance of GOODWOOD STARLIGHT at Folkestone
yesterday. Pre-race we were concerned that the heavy going would
not be suitable but he coped well with it to just be beaten into
second inside the final furlong. We have an exciting season ahead
with this horse.
EYE FOR
THE GIRLS and INTERAKT have been given their first entries of the
season. EYE FOR THE GIRLS hopefully goes to Yarmouth on Monday
while INTERAKT has entries at Nottingham and Kempton on Wednesday.
Both are very well.
OR
JAUNE is entered at Huntingdon on Monday, we are waiting to see
what the weather does because he wont want going any worse than
good to soft.

Monday 29th
March
GOODWOOD STARLIGHT has been entered at
Folkestone on Thursday over a mile and a half. This will be his
first outing for new trainer Sheena West, she has been pleased with
the horse at home and seeing how he performs on the track will tell
her a lot more about him. GOODWOOD STARLIGHT did very well as a
three year old for John Dunlop and went very high in the handicap,
and has also had problems with stomach ulcers. The ulcers are now
under control and he is back down to a reasonable handicap so we
have high hopes for him this
season.
15
Heart of the South owners went to Mick Channon's yard near Newbury
last Thursday to see INTERAKT and EYE FOR THE GIRLS on the gallops.
We had a really good time, it is quite a spectacle to see so many
horses at a top yard. Both of ours looked really well and will be
back on the track in the next few
weeks.

Saturday 20th
March
After
much deliberation we have decided to let FRUITY O'ROONEY take his
chance at Uttoxeter this afternoon. Rain is forecast, and ideally
we would like a deluge because this horse does prefer plenty of
give. However as opportunities for a heavy ground run are
diminishing we are going to run while we have the chance. He is in
great form at home. Unfortunately Josh Moore broke a collar bone at
Cheltenham yesterday and wont be able to ride, but Gary's claimer
Joe Akehurst will be an able
deputy.
TOBAGO
BAY is entered at Kempton on Tuesday, he was unlucky to just miss
the cut for the conditional jockeys race at Cheltenham
yesterday.
|
|
Wednesday 17th
March
TOBAGO BAY will be declared for the Martin Pipe
conditional jockeys handicap hurdle on Friday - hopefully enough
horses above us will come out of the race and we will get a run!
Alternatively the horse has been given an entry at Kempton next
week.
|
|
Monday
15th March
OR
JAUNE has returned safe and well from his 5th place at Sandown,
unfortunately he couldn't finish any closer despite going off joint
favourite. He didn't jump as well as he can, and he may be tried
elsewhere than Sandown next time where he seemed to struggle with
the railway fences. It would have been nice to give jockey Jamie
Moore a win on his first ride back after 3 months on the
sidelines.
|
|
Monday 15th
March
TOBAGO
BAY holds three entries at the Cheltenham Festival this week. He
needs horses above him in the weights to come out if he is to get a
run in any of the races so he is likely to be declared for all
three, with the intention of running whenever we can. FRUITY
O'ROONEY is in the Coral Cup but is more likely to wait for softer
ground at Uttoxeter on
Saturday.
|
|
Friday 12th
March
OR
JAUNE has been declared to run at Sandown tomorrow, the race will
be shown live on channel 4.
|
|
Sunday 7th
March
OR
JAUNE has been entered in the BET365 Gold Cup at Sandown on
Saturday 24th April. This famous staying chase was previously known
as the Whitbread Gold Cup and has been won by horses as famous as
Desert Orchid so it is steeped in history. OR JAUNE is in great
form and will be out in the next couple of weeks as part of his
preparation.
|
|
Friday 26th
February
Cheltenham
entries have now been made for TOBAGO BAY and FRUITY
O'ROONEY. Both are engaged in the Coral Cup, TOBAGO BAY also has
entries in the Pertemps final and the Martin Pipe Conditional
Jockeys handicap.
Last night's
run from RED YARN was disappointing when finishing fifth at
Kempton, she still seems green and will be ridden differently next
time.
Our Kempton
hurdle winner MOHANAD looks a picture on the gallops and is being
aimed at a valuable handicap hurdle at Sandown at the end of the
season.
|
|
Tuesday 23rd
February
We are hoping for a smoother run and a
less eventful race at Kempton on Thursday evening when RED YARN
runs again. She will be sporting sheepskin cheek pieces to help her
to concentrate and we expect her to run well
again.
|
|
Thursday 18th
February
RED YARN was very unlucky not to win
last night at Kempton. She was beaten into second by just a neck,
having been leaned on and intimidated by the eventual winner and
third. For a long while it looked as though we might be given the
race in the Steward's Room but it wasn't to be. However there is
plenty of time for this filly and she has proved again that she has
plenty of ability.
OR JAUNE heads to Sandown tomorrow. He
came back to form last time out so it will be very interesting to
see how our seven time winner goes.
|
|
Tuesday 16th
February
RED YARN goes to Kempton tomorrow
evening for her first run over a mile. Her three runs to date have
suggested that this extra furlong will be ideal and we expect her
to go very close.
|
|
Friday 12th
February
What a fantastic performance by FRUITY
O'ROONEY on Monday at Lingfield. He really does love the mud and he
seemed to be able to run through it better than any of his rivals.
He was given a great ride by Josh Moore who allowed him to travel
and jump alongside the leaders and he just kept on running as all
of the others folded. He really deserved this for some gallant
efforts in defeat recently and we were delighted for his loyal
owners.
RED YARN has been entered at Kempton
next Wednesday, she is another who has been aganisingly close to
winning and the extra furlong here (this is over a mile) will
surely suit her better. She will have a spring break and will be
running on the turf for us this summer.
|
|
Monday 8th
February
FRUITY O'ROONEY goes to Lingfield this
afternoon for the 2 mile 7 furlong handicap hurdle. Placed on his
last three runs, his consistency has been rewarded with a steady
rise in the handicap and Josh Moore takes a valuable 7lb off today.
We hope he can get his head in front because he really deserves
it.
OR JAUNE put in a much improved run at
Sandown on Saturday, finishing sixth behind Monkerhostin in a
valuable handicap chase. The better ground made all the difference
and he jumped brilliantly. He will now be kept to better conditions
and he has dropped to a handcap mark he is capable of winning from.
We expect him to add to his tally of seven wins
soon.

Tuesday 2nd
February
It has been a quiet week for runners
at Heart of the South Racing, with just the one run from DICEY
AFFAIR at Kempton last week. This was not altogether successful as
we had hoped she would win but she doesn't seem to run her best
races at Kempton and she will be kept to Lingfield in the
future.
Our latest venture is a breeding
syndicate with our mare AUNT RUBY. She is the dam of SOUTH CAPE,
RELATIVE ORDER, EYE FOR THE GIRLS and RED YARN. She has this week
gone to Newmarket to be covered in mid February by GREEN DESERT,
the legendary sire of CAPE CROSS and grand sire of SEA THE STARS.
This partnership is now full and the lucky members can start
dreaming of the possibilities for their foal!
|
|
Tuesday 26th
January
FRUITY O'ROONEY gave his owners, and
plenty of Heart of the South supporters, a thrill at Fontwell
yesterday. He vied for the lead for all 2 miles 6 furlongs of the
feature handicap hurdle before just going down to a very well
handicapped horse and the favourite in the final yards. . He is
ultra consistent and we hope he gets his reward
soon.
DICEY AFFAIR goes to Kempton for a 7f
handicap on Thursday, second and fourth on her two most recent
starts she is another who deserves to get her head in front. The
penny seems to have dropped with her and she will have a great
chance on Thursday.
|
|
Sunday 24th
January
Unfortunately things didn't go as
planned yesterday for OR JAUNE's trip to Wincanton. He detested the
heavy ground and was never going, which is such a shame as we had
very high hopes. He is in great form at home and there is a chance
that if we have a dry week he could run again at Newbury on
Friday.
|
|
Sunday 24th
January
I paid a visit to Sheena West's yard
yesterday to see MOHANAD, KASHMINA, GOODWOOD STARLIGHT and TOBAGO
BAY. They all looked really well, KASHMINA has been enjoying going
out in the field and getting muddy, they other three are being
fittened up after a break and they have had their work upped this
week to do more cantering. Sheena has a lovely yard - all owners
are welcome to visit their horses and it really is a great
opportunity to see them in their home
surroundings.
|
|
Wednesday 20th
January
Our chasing star OR JAUNE has been
entered at Wincanton on Saturday in the feature race on the card,
the £30,000 Wincanton Cup. Its 3 miles and a furlong and should
suit our horse well - he has been flying up the gallops recently.
Meanwhile FRUITY O'ROONEY goes to Fontwell on Monday for a 2 mile 6
furlong handicap hurdle. 90 Heart of the South owners will be there
to cheer him on because our prize giving lunch is taking place
alongside the racing!
